About

I have had a long career as a psychotherapist and have always loved this work. Over many years in practice, I have dealt with most problems that clients bring to therapy. I believe the foundation of effective therapy is a correct diagnosis and a strong commitment to work together. My style is empathic, holistic and client focused. Throughout our work together I will support you by identifying your strengths and encouraging you to be hopeful. I have the skills and experience to help you discover what is causing your distress and find a path to healing and growth.

I received my MSW from the University of Chicago in 1976. I completed advanced training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at Smith College School for Social Work and in Psychoanalysis through the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. My training taught me the power of the relational approach to psychotherapy and the important role that early experiences and trauma play in shaping the individual.

I lived in New Mexico for many years where our community was home to people of varied cultures and backgrounds. Learning a great deal from clients about their cultures and healing rituals had a profound impact on me. The experience increased my awareness and understanding of the healing process and expanded my ability to approach psychotherapy from a broader holistic perspective.

In addition to my direct work with clients, I have been a clinical supervisor and teacher throughout my career. My academic positions have included teaching courses and seminars in multiaxial assessment, clinical methods and treatment process, attachment and trauma, treatment of personality disorders, dream analysis and multicultural therapy and healing.
